White Rice

I do not have anything grand prepared for today's post, but it did dawn on me that I have not posted about how to make rice. Making white rice is nothing fancy or difficult, but not everyone knows how. If that is you, keep on reading.

The easiest way ever to make rice is in a rice cooker. If you do not have a rice cooker, do not worry; you can easiely make rice on the stove. The key is to remember the 1:2:2 ratio. 1 cup uncooked rice : 2 cups water : yields 2 cups cooked rice.

Ingredients:
1 cup uncooked white rice

Directions for rice cooker:
1.  Dump uncooked white rice into rice cooker. Pour 2 cups water over rice. Turn on rice cooker.
2.  Do nothing for 20 minutes.
3.  When the rice cooker clicks off, your rice is done! It is that easy.

Directions for stove top:
1.  Combine rice and 2 cups water in medium sauce pan over medium-high heat. Bring to boil.
2.  Reduce heat to medium-low and cover. Cook for 20 minutes without removing lid. Even if some steam escapes and sizzles on the stove - do not remove lid. Reduce heat further if needed.
3.  You rice is done! This is still easy, but I think it's harder not to peek and see how the rice is doing with this cooking method.

  1. I stink at cooking rice. It always boils over. I need a rice cooker...and the space to store one...
