Soy Sauce Eggs
These eggs are amazingly flavorful. I grew up eating them. Be sure to use low sodium soy sauce in this recipe or it can get really saltly!
Ingredients:
6 large eggs
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
3/4 cup water
Optional Ingredients:
Green onions, cut into 2 inch pieces
Star anise - or - Chinese 5-spice seasoning
Directions:
1. Place eggs in cold water to cover and bring to a boil over medium heat. Turn off heat, cover and let sit for 10.
2. Cool eggs thoroughly under cold running water (about 5 minutes). Remove shells.
3. Combine sugar, soy sauce, and water (and any of the optional ingredients) in saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar disolves.
4. Add eggs and baste to brown evenly. Simmer, covered, 1 hour. Turn several times for even coloring.
5. Turn off heat and let stand, covered, 30 minutes. Turn eggs once.
6. Serve eggs with some of the sauce on the side.

Wow. Totally not what I was expecting when I read your post title! I have *never* seen or heard of such a thing!! I'm not a big fan of boiled eggs, so I'm not sure if I'd like these... I am very curious, though!!
ReplyDeleteI love these eggs! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is another recipe that uses black tea. I hope to make and post it in a few months.

ReplyDeleteI do have a recipe for tea eggs, but I think I need different tea. The eggs haven't come out quite right. :)
